Man City have been sending scouts to watch FC Twente centre-back Ruud Nijstad, according to reports.
TEAMtalk claim that the Cityzens are “among a host of Premier League clubs” who have been tracking the teenager‘s progress this season.
Rivals Manchester United, Newcastle, Brentford, Sunderland, Aston Villa and Everton are also believed to be keeping a close eye on Nijstad.
The 18-year-old, who is 6ft 5 and left-footed, has a unique profile, and that has attracted the attention of City.
However, Nijstad is not expected to move before the end of the season, with FC Twente having already ruled out a sale during the January transfer window.
What do Man City fans need to know about the player?
The youngster came through the DETO and FC Twente academies before making his senior debut for the latter against Heracles Almelo during a 2-1 win just over a year ago.
Nijstad has made 38 first-team appearances in total, having established himself as a regular starter in the second half of last season.
Since the start of the 2026/27 campaign, the defender has played the full 90 minutes in all but one of FC Twente’s league fixtures, having also featured in Europa League qualifying and the Conference League.

Where would Nijstad fit in at the Etihad?
Director of Football Hugo Viana is constantly scouring the globe for the most promising young talent, and the Dutchman is clearly someone worthy of monitoring.
Head coach Enzo Maresca doesn’t really need another centre-half at the moment. The Italian can call upon the likes of Ruben Dias, Marc Guehi, Josko Gvardiol, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, but Nijstad could be targeted if one of those players does decide to leave the Etihad.
