Having blown it with a run of winnable games, Spurs now face a nightmare set of fixtures. First up is a trip to St James’s Park to take on Newcastle United this Sunday, before next week delivers matches against Manchester United and Liverpool.
Based on our current form and the mess at the new White Hart Lane, we may well get nothing from these three games. We will try to keep this preview positive, but it’s pretty tough at the moment.
Team News
The usual suspects remain on the sidelines for this one. Rodrigo Bentancur was ruled out for the season some time ago and he will continue to be accompanied in the physio’s room by Emerson Royal, Ryan Sessegnon and Yves Bissouma. There is, however, a suggestion that Ben Davies may just be fit enough to make the matchday squad.
There is one new addition to the injury list. Clement Lenglet had to leave the field during the Bournemouth game and he’s expected to sit Sunday out.
Elsewhere, Lucas Moura serves the last game of his three-match ban and he will be back for the game against Manchester United next Thursday.
Match Odds
Newcastle will start as firm favourites for this one and the best odds on the home win currently stand at 17/20 with Quinnbet and VBet. The draw is next at 20/7 with VBet once again, while a win for Spurs can be claimed at 17/5 with Unibet.
The Magpies suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Aston Villa last week and, while their opponents were on an improved run of form, the nature and margin of the loss still came as a surprise.
Over their last six league games, Newcastle have claimed 15 points. Therefore, defeat to Villa ended a run of five straight wins.
We don’t want to dwell too much on our own form. Overall, it’s mixed but that loss at home to Bournemouth represented a low point in the season in so many ways.
Side Markets
First goalscorer betting lists two Newcastle United players ahead of Harry Kane. Callum Wilson leads the way at 7/2 with Unibet, while Alexander Isak follows at 22/5 with Unibet again. Harry then comes along at 5/1 with VBet.
Callum Wilson
Newcastle continue to provide options towards the top of this market with Miguel Almiron on offer at 15/2 with VBet. Those that want to focus on Spurs players will find Son Heung-Min at 11/1 with Quinnbet, followed by Richarlison at 12/1, Dejan Kulusevski at 22/1 and Ivan Perisic at 33/1. All of those figures are with Quinnbet once again.
In our regular round up of side markets, Both Teams to Score is next and this can be claimed for Sunday’s match at best odds of 5/6 with 888Sport and Betway. If you prefer to take the ‘no’ option on BTTS, this is available at 24/23 with VBet.
Next is the Total Combined Goals markets where a stake Over the 2.5 line will currently be met at a figure of 17/20 with Quinnbet. We can push that one step higher to claim 43/19 with VBet for Over 3.5 goals, or we can take a different approach.
Those that are expecting a quiet afternoon in the north east could look at Under 2.5 goals which is quoted here at a top price of Even Money with Unibet.
We’ll sign off with some Correct Score suggestions. If you’ve managed to keep the faith and feel that we can return to north London with all three points, the 2-1 away win could be for you at 13/1 with VBet and Unibet.
A 1-1 draw is listed at 6/1 with Betway and Ladbrokes, while Newcastle 3 Spurs 1 could be a popular bet for the neutrals at 14/1 with Coral and Quinnbet.

Last Season
Newcastle United were a very different side last season, particularly in the early stages after Steve Bruce. Following the takeover of the club, things started to improve, but a number of opposing teams still managed to take advantage.
Tottenham did the double over Newcastle last year. A 5-1 win at home in April was preceded by a 3-2 victory at St James’s Park on October 17th.
The Magpies were on the cusp of their new era, and everything seemed to be going to plan when Callum Wilson opened the scoring early on. Spurs, however, quickly responded and were 3-1 ahead before half time. Goals from Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min seemed to give us a comfortable margin at the break.
The scoreline remained unchanged for much of the second period. Jonjo Shelvey was then sent off, but we still had to endure some late nerves as Eric Dier put through his own net on 89 minutes.
A repeat of that scoreline may be too much to hope for, but can we possibly come back from St James’s Park with at least a point?
Verdict
How do we keep this section positive? For the last few seasons Spurs have shown some early promise and there has been a trend for the campaign to tail off. Last year, we kept going and had a top four finish to play for, right up until the very last game.
We can remember saying in the past that we would rather the season end, but we can’t wait this time. At the moment, it’s hard to remember any positive moments from 2022/23.
Anyway, the point here is that it’s hard to see us getting anything out of the Newcastle game. Their defeat to Aston Villa last time out offers some hope, but our own form isn’t exactly encouraging.
We’ll therefore sign off with three tips, all of which will look fairly familiar. Both Teams to Score, plus Over 3.5 goals are the first two selections, followed by Son Heung-Min to score at any time in 90 minutes.
Sonny’s dip in form hasn’t helped this season, but he’s slowly been finding the target again, and hopefully he’ll help the team to get something from Sunday’s game.
Best Bets
- Both Teams to Score at 5/6 with Betway
- Over 3.5 Goals at 43/19 with VBet
- Son Heung-Min to Score at Any Time in 90 minutes at 4/1 with Coral
