Every Premier League team needs a workhorse – someone to do all the dirty work for their side and give their all for the cause.

Certain teams have more of those stars than others, but there are some standouts so far this season for total distance covered.

Gross has covered the most distance in the Premier League so far this season amid his incredible start with Brighton

Here are the top flight players who have run the most…

    1. Pascal Gross – 72.5km

Brighton‘s star of the campaign so far is surely Pascal Gross.

And at 35 years old, Gross has covered the most distance of all players in the Premier League, running 72.5km in six games.

That’s an average of 12.1km per 90 minutes for the veteran, who has four assists and three goals to his name already.

    2. Anton Stach – 70.9km

Anton Stach comes next, with the Leeds midfielder clocking just under 71km covered across six outings.

The German has averaged 11.9km per 90 minutes.

He has played all but two minutes of Daniel Farke‘s side’s impressive start to the Premier League season.

    3. Vitaly Janelt – 70.8km

    Another midfielder. Another German.

Brentford‘s Vitaly Janelt is also one of the leading runners in the league, totting up 70.8km in total distance covered.

Janelt is currently averaging 11.8km per 90 minutes.

    4. Harrison Armstrong – 70.3km

Also above the 70km mark is Everton‘s Harrison Armstrong.

19-year-old Armstrong, who has started every game for the Toffees so far this season, has covered 70.3km altogether.

The ex-Preston and Derby loanee averages 12.1km per 90.

    5. Ethan Ampadu – 69km

Ethan Ampadu rounds out the top five, as the Leeds captain leads by example when it comes to effort on the pitch.

The Wales international has covered 69km so far this season, averaging 11.5km per game.

Ampadu has played every minute for the Whites, with their midfield full of workhorses, as he joins Stach in the list.

    6. Granit Xhaka – 68km

Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka is also one of the furthest runners in the Premier League this season.

He has covered 68km altogether, averaging 11.3km per 90.

At 34 years old, Xhaka, who has recently been punished for obtaining a fake COVID certificate, has played every minute this term.

    7. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 67.5km

Averaging 11.3km per 90 minutes, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is another of the leading runners in the Premier League.

The ex-Chelsea midfielder has run a total of 67.5km so far.

And as a reward for his effort on the pitch, Dewsbury-Hall has also scored two goals and provided one assist.

    8. James Justin – 67.1km

Farke clearly has Leeds working hard for their results.

James Justin is the third Leeds player in the top eight players who have covered the most distance so far this season.

Justin has run 67.1km in six Premier League games.
