It’s been another frustrating week at the new White Hart Lane. Following a strange display at Goodison on Monday night, hopes of a top four finish are fading rapidly and Spurs are now having to rely on poor results from our main rivals for the Champions League places.
The club has a chance to respond to that 1-1 draw with a home fixture against Brighton this Saturday. The Seagulls are also challenging for the European slots and they come into this match on the back of a 2-0 win at Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
They have proved to be tough opponents since joining the Premier League, but can we squeeze three points from this fixture?
Team News
Hugo Lloris returned to the side on schedule although his inclusion against Everton wasn’t widely welcomed on social media. Ryan Sessgnon was also pencilled in for a comeback, but he wasn’t fit and current reports suggest that he’s unlikely to be involved against Brighton.
Joining Sessegnon in the treatment room are Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ben Davies and Emerson Royal, with Bentancur and Emerson ruled out for the season. In addition to those injury issues, Lucas Moura will now begin his three-match ban after being sent off at Goodison Park.
The only injured player given a hope of returning to the line up is Richarlison. He missed the game with former club Everton due to a calf problem, but reports are hopeful that he will make Saturday’s matchday squad.
Match Odds
Tottenham’s mixed run of form means that the result betting is very close. In fact, both teams can be found at the same win odds of 8/5 in some places. Elsewhere, Spurs are narrow favourites at a top price of 48/29 with Vbet.
Victory for Brighton is next at 28/17 with 10Bet while the draw completes the match betting at 29/11 with Vbet again.
That win for Brighton over Bournemouth on Tuesday put The Seagulls in sixth place and they are now just four points behind Spurs with two games in hand. The form guide shows that they have taken 11 points from their last six league games, which is the fourth best record in the EPL over that period.
Tottenham have also taken 11 points from their previous six, but our most recent subdued performances against Southampton and Everton will give the Seagulls more than a hope.
Side Markets
Harry Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot on Monday to register his 24th goal of the season, and he will start as the favourite in this Saturday’s first goalscorer market. Harry is on offer at best industry odds of 17/4 with Unibet.
Brighton’s much coveted young striker Evan Ferguson is next. The 18-year-old Republic of Ireland international has eight goals across all domestic competitions this season and he’s quoted at 13/2 with 888Sport.
The bookmakers continue to like Arnaut Danjuma much more than the Spurs’ management. The loanee is listed at 8/1 with Quinnbet for the first goal, while the same sportsbook is quoting that same 8/1 figure for Son Heung-Min.
Other options for Tottenham backers might include Richarlison at 10/1 with Quinnbet, Dejan Kulusevski at 15/1 with Unibet and Ivan Perisic at 20/1 with Coral.
In our other regular side bets, Both Teams to Score is available for Saturday at 7/10 with Unibet. Anyone preferring to take the No option on BTTS can currently claim 11/9 with Vbet.
Next it’s the Overs and Unders goal betting where a stake on Over 2.5 goals would be met at 5/6 with Betway and Quinnbet. By pushing that one stage higher we can get 41/20 with Unibet to stake Over 3.5 Goals.
If you’re expecting a quiet 90 minutes, Vbet have a top price of 30/29 to go Under the 2.5 goal line.
We’ll sign off from here with a regular look at some Correct Score options. If the result follows the pattern suggested by the match betting, it would end in a narrow victory for Spurs. With that in mind, you may want to look at the 2-1 home win which is on offer at 9/1 with Unibet.
That same 2-1 scoreline in favour of Brighton is also quoted at 9/1, this time with Ladbrokes, while the 1-1 draw can be backed at 11/2 with 10Bet and Betway.
Last Season
Unfortunately this is another one to forget and we really should change this section next season. The corresponding fixture in the 2021/22 campaign was ruined by another late goal from the opposition – sounds familiar.
Leandro Trossard was the culprit this time as he scored the only goal of the game in the 90th minute.
We’ll swiftly move on from that and see if we can find any encouragement among head to head results. Since they returned to the top flight in the 2017/18 season, The Seagulls have played Spurs 11 times in the League and once in the FA Cup.
Tottenham have actually won eight of those games with three defeats and one draw, which is a better record than we expected.
So we are left to hope that Saturday’s result goes with the overall trend and isn’t a repeat of last season.
Verdict
After suffering a brief wobble following the departure of Graham Potter to Chelsea, Brighton have quickly responded under their new manager Roberto De Zerbi. While a possible Champions League place isn’t out of the question, the real target is a slot in the top six, and the Seagulls will see this as a winnable game.
Roberto de Zerbi
It’s so hard to know what to expect from Spurs. Monday was a mess and another missed opportunity to put the game to bed after taking the lead against 10 men.
We’re unsure of the result, but suspect that the pattern could be similar to the Everton game. For that reason, we’re backing a low scorer, with Under 2.5 Goals and No on Both Teams to Score being our two selections.
An emphatic victory would be nice, but let’s settle on these picks and simply see what happens.
Best Bets
- Under 2.5 Goals at 30/29 with VBet
- Both Teams to Score – bet ‘No’ at 11/9 with VBet
