Tottenham have agreed a club-record deal for Sandro Tonali in a total package worth around £100million, talkSPORT understands.

Spurs will fork over an initial £92.5m for the Newcastle midfielder, with an additional £7.5m in proposed add-ons for the 26-year-old.

Tonali has already given the green light to join, and talkSPORT understands broad terms have been in place between the Italian and Spurs for some time.

The Magpies had previously rebuffed a Spurs bid for Tonali, which was understood to be in the region of £80m.

Arsenal and Manchester City also held an interest in Tonali, but Roberto De Zerbi has been a key factor in attracting the player in Spurs’ direction.

News of Tonali’s now-imminent move to north London adds to what could be a difficult summer for Newcastle, given Arsenal are eyeing up Bruno Guimaraes.

It is understood the Magpies skipper is pushing to join the Premier League champions, although the Gunners are yet to approach Newcastle.

talkSPORT also understands there’s a growing list of unsettled players in the Newcastle camp this summer.

    Why do Spurs want Tonali?

Tonali, who joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023, was Spurs’ leading transfer target going into the new season.

And Spurs have now held off stiff competition for the 26-year-old’s signature.

Reigning Premier League champions Arsenal have previously explored a move for the Italian while Man City were also linked.

Tonali had been open to a return to Milan, but with nothing concrete materialising, has now settled on a switch down south.

Which other players are on Spurs’ radar this summer?

As for Spurs, Tonali isn’t the only name on their midfield shortlist.

talkSPORT understands the north London outfit have agreed a deal with West Ham to sign Mateus Fernandes for £85m.

Once complete, Fernandes will overtake Xavi Simons (£55m) as the club’s record signing.

Manchester United were also heavily interested in signing Fernandes, but were not wholly convinced by his desire to join.

talkSPORT also understands the Red Devils did not want to part with £85m for the Portuguese midfielder.

    Who have Spurs already signed?

It’s already been a busy summer for Spurs, with Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke and Martin Dubravka all arriving.

Robertson, Senesi and Dubravka will all link up on free transfers now that their contracts with Liverpool, Bournemouth and Burnley, respectively, expired on June 30.

Van Hecke’s move was confirmed on June 16, with Spurs forking out £52m for the centre-back.
