Real Madrid have made a U-turn on their decision to sign Man City midfielder Rodri, according to Radio Marca reporter Sergio Valentin.
Posting on his X account, the journalist said that the La Liga club have “changed their minds” about making a bid for the 30-year-old.
It was originally claimed that Real had no intention of recruiting Rodri, but they have now reportedly told the player that they will make an approach after the World Cup.
Rodri has made his stance very clear in several interviews that he’s open to moving to the Bernabeu, and Valentin also reiterated that the Spanish international “wants” to join Real.
What is Man City’s stance on the transfer?
Director of Football Hugo Viana will have a big decision to make if Real do table a formal offer for Rodri.
The midfielder has less than a year left on his contract at the Etihad Stadium, and there has been no progress in discussions over an extension.
Rodri could end up joining Real on a free transfer next year if he doesn’t get his move before the transfer window closes later this summer.

Has a replacement been lined up for Rodri?
Viana is believed to have identified Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi as the top target, with talks having taken place in recent weeks. The main obstacle is the Moroccan’s asking price.
Lille president Olivier Letang has made it clear that he wants to keep hold of the 18-year-old, and he is believed to be determined to retain his services on a season-long loan deal, even if he is sold.
Considering City may need to replace Rodri immediately, such an arrangement would not be acceptable, so getting Bouaddi to join this summer may hinge on the Manchester club paying a premium price. The teenager could cost upwards of €100m (£85m).
